Here is a list of things you should have completed before starting project 4.5:
- Read the design brief. We have published this in your printed notes (and on Project 4.5 at http://www.diploma.gardencad.net). It is quite a complex brief. The design area space is large and the client requests a number of design features be incorporated into your design. Some of these - an underground tank forming part of a sustainable garden design, a drawing to show how an advanced tree might be planted (do not use ours), a design for a piece of wall sculpture etc. will take considerable research time.
- Play the complete set of movies (on www.gardencad.net) which show how the project is built in GardenCAD. Here is the link to those movies: http://www.gardencad.net/node/60. There are 10 movies there so allow plenty of time.
- If you have not already done so, make a CAD version of your logo. Store it somewhere such that you can access later. The figure below shows one example of a logo.

- Make a suitable scale bar drawing Do not include drawing number data shown in the figure below, just draw the scale bar fullsize - it will be inserted into model space. You will ultimately need several scale bars, each suitable for different scale designs and different sheets. You cannot simply scale these up or down, so it may pay to make (say) a bar called 1-50_OnA1Sheet and so on.

- Make a CAD version of a suitable north point indicator. The figure below shows one attempt at drawing a north indicator.

- Make sure that the logo, and site location details can be combined as a group in a single title block similar to that shown in the figure below. Trial the use of this combined block on an A1 sheet [on a presentation page] by importing the logo and details into a Pages space in GardenCAD. (see below).

- Prepare a hand drawn, single point perspective of your proposed design (for the required design space behind the terrace house). Scan this drawing (to a JPG file type) and have it ready to incorporate into your design.
- Take the online courses on An Introduction to the Photography of Plants in the Landscape and An Introduction to the image editor IrfanView. These can be reached via the Resources menu item on the site www.diploma.gardencad.net. You will need to request an enrolment for those online learning courses.
- Prepare some photographs of plants which you intend to include in the design. Make sure that these are of appropriate size and resolution for inclusion on an A1 sheet. (Suggest 7.5 cm wide and 72 dpi resolution).

- Think about a design (or commissioning an artist) for a piece of free standing sculpture or garden art (design below by NicoleF).

- Prepare a first draft of a CAD standard that you agree to follow for this project. The title block information in the Example 2 above is deficient (according to the draft standard). Here is the link to the draft standard: http://www.diploma.gardencad.net/node/157
