4.1 Learn to use CAD software - GardenCAD

Even though you have now had some experience with CAD drafting and produced your first drawing, we recognise that it is quite a jump from using hand drawing techniques to drawing on a computer. This module is designed to first provide a broad overview of the use of CAD software to prepare drawings and then to guide you towards an extensive online tutorial on the use of GardenCAD.

Tip Unlike others, this module is not a project as such, there is nothing for you to deliver, just read and ponder!.

A 'real' landscape CAD drawing - what does the environment look like?

The figures below shows CAD drawinsg (in GardenCAD software), note in the first figure, the use of layers to separate various parts of the design and in the second, a complex symbol representing a tree. In both cases, we have set the screen background to white. In the previous exercise, you were working with the background set to black - we recommend this as it is kinder on the eyes.
